As Founder and Artistic Director of the “Orleans Young Players” in Ottawa from 1989 to 1997 and Artistic Director of the Port Moody Young Players, Karen has produced and directed over 40 stage productions and has developed and facilitated drama workshops and theatre training programs for students of all ages.

Karen has been performing since age 8 and at 18 received the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Eastern Ontario Drama League Festival for her portrayal of “Hellen Keller” in The Miracle Worker. An Ottawa native, she went on to study theatre at The National Arts Centre and The Ottawa School of Speech and Drama and performed in various theatre productions including Under Milkwood, Land Before Time and The Killdeer.

Karen pioneered the ‘Shakespeare Live’ series for school children in Ottawa and when she arrived in Port Coquitlam, produced and directed A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream for the First Annual Port Moody Festival of the Arts. Last year she produced and re-directed Edward Albee’s The Zoo Story as the main feature of TheoBC’s fundraiser for Mental Health Awareness. Karen has also produced and directed such productions as The Christmas Nutcracker, Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz and the musical, A Friend is a Friend.

Karen has worked in ‘Artists in the Schools’ programs both here and in Ottawa and was a puppeteer with ‘Kids on the Block’ a group that aided the integration of children with disabilities into the regular school system.

As a certified facilitator, Karen utilizes her theatre training and expertise to enhance her teaching style and injects into various curriculum, the playful component of drama and role-play with successful results.

 

Since the opening of Moon Stone Theatre Company in 2001, Christine has had the pleasure of teaching theatre to children and youth ages 5 – 17.  With Moon Stone she has directed the young actors in Macbeth, Comedy of Errors, Taming of the Shrew, and co-directed The Tempest and A Midsummer Night’s Dream

In the past, as a performer, she has acted in several productions some included: ‘Blanche’ in A Street Car Named Desire, ‘Phebe’ in As You Like It and ‘Nicole’ in Bonjour La Bonjour.

She studied at Simon Fraser University’s National Voice Intensive and received her theatre diploma at the East Kootenay Community College. She has also studied with the Theatre Resource Centre in Toronto and is a trained performer of Pochinko Clowning (mask to clown). Additionally, Christine studied Brazilian, African, and modern dance and has trained and taught Capoeira as well as Tae Kwon Do.

During her travels, she has been involved in all other aspects of theatre including: Lighting, Sound, Costuming, Properties Management, Make-Up, Set Construction, Public Relations, Marketing, and Theatre Administration.

Christine is very excited to be a part of Moon Stone Theatre Company and to be involved in a company dedicated to bringing theatre and life-skills to young people.


 

An active performer and supporter of theatre for the past ten years, Lindsay has extensive training in stage acting, film, voice and dance with some of Vancouver's top professionals.

She has sang, danced and acted in a variety of genres in everything from Footlight's, The Sound of Music to Capilano Theatre Society's classic comedy, You Can't Take It With You. Lindsay’s latest performances include, S.F.U.'s Orcestes, Cheshire Cat Theatre Company's Durang off Broadway and Draft 89's Tragic Esentic's. Her film credits include Indy Films Katya and Reveries and Rocket Ships and she has appeared on The Knowledge Network’s Kid Zone. Lindsay is currently an active member of a new independent company, Tiger Milk Collective and has recently performed in the original Hospital City.

A graduate of Simon Fraser’s School of the Contemporary Arts, Lindsay now works full time at Moon Stone Theatre Company. In addition to her BFA, Lindsay has a diploma in theatre from Capilano College, training from the Cori Caulfield School of Dance in modern, hip-hop and musical theatre and has both classical and jazz vocal training.



Heather’s admiration for performing and for the theatre began at a very early age.  She started learning the craft at 10 years old with the Orleans Young Players in Ontario.  During the six years that Heather was with OYP she was actively involved in every aspect of production. She became student teacher, assistant director, make-up and mask-making workshop junior facilitator, as well as acting in many plays including Romeo and Juliet and A Christmas Carol. Her most memorable role with OYP was her role as Jackie in Sometimes I Wake Up in the Middle of the Night.  Heather, as well, choreographed dance routines and movement for Pinocchio and the Fire Eater and A Friend is a Friend. Most recently Heather co-directed Moon Stone Theatre Company’s Now That We Have You Attention production of Hooked

Heather’s training also includes courses with Ottawa School of Speech and Drama, Ottawa Little Theatre and Canterbury High School’s theatre program. 

In addition to teaching, Heather also works as Moon Stone Theatre Company’s Office Administrator.  She is thrilled to be working with the Moon Stone team and describes her position as “the greatest job ever”. 



 

Janice joined Moon Stone in 2005 and she has been a tremendous asset to our team.  Her organizational skills are exceptional and we are lucky to have her as our costume and proprieties manager.  Janice is an accomplished seamstress of many years, having sewn everything from wedding garments to various theatre and dance costumes.  She is a busy mother of three, but still finds the time to keep up-dated and satisfy her interest in the ever changing field of fashion and make-up artistry. 

Janice is happy to be working in Moon Stone Theatre Company’s “upbeat, creative and welcoming atmosphere”.   



Leanne has worked extensively in the Winnipeg Theatre Community since graduating with Honours from the University of Winnipeg's Theatre Department. Selected Winnipeg credits include Origin of the Species (Three Sisters Theatre Company), The Paper Bag Princess and Long Johns and Silver (Prairie Theatre Exchange), Etienne (Theatre Projects) and The Crucible (Manitoba Theatre Centre). Leanne is a founding member of 60 Cycle Hum Productions where she has created the roles of Blayze Glory in Tumblin' Dice, Manon in The Assimilation of Eddie Mosiac and Christy Lamb in the highly acclaimed one woman show Black & White Pictures.

Leanne’s love for teaching children has taken her all over the world to work, including places as vast and varied as Fiji, Saudi Arabia, Thailand and Northern Canada.

Since arriving in Vancouver three years ago, Leanne has appeared in a number of films, commercials and TV Series as well as working as a theatre, and on-camera coach both at Second Avenue Studios and Red Room Studios in Nanaimo.  Leanne also teaches Theatre at Urban Academy, an Independent Elementary school in New Westminster.        

Leanne is looking forward to working with Moon Stone Theatre Company’s keen and creative students!

Miranda is a gifted, self-motivated actor, writer, director, and dramaturge.  

Writing credits include: The History of My Domestication commissioned by Playwrights Theatre Centre, Hospital City (Tiger Milk Collective) The Tour (Vancouver and Victoria Fringe Festivals) Terrible Girls, Who Are Not Really Terrible (Walking Fish Festival), and Victory of Course (The Ontological-Hysteric Theatre, NYC). Miranda performed, wrote, and directed for Ladies Voices: Stein in Play, presented at Hycroft Manor by Tell-Not-Tell Collective.

Most recently, Miranda worked as a writer and actor in Crescent Tales as a multidisciplinary, site- specific collaboration at the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Gardens in Vancouver's China-town. Miranda is a graduate of SFU.



 

Lindsay’s passion for the theatre has enticed her to explore many different facets of production. She is a teacher, actor, multi-disciplinary collaborator, and a founding member of the new theatre company, Tiger Milk Collective. 

Lindsay is adjudicator of One Act Play Festival at Seycove Secondary School in North Vancouver. Her most resent credits include co-production, co-direction & performance of  Ladies Voices: Stein in Play at Vancouver’s Hycroft Manor; co-production & performance of Miranda Huba’s Hospital City at Video In Studios; co-creation of site-specific multi-disciplinary collaboration piece, Crescent Tales, in Chinatown’s Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Gardens; and most recently she was an invited actor in Superware, produced by Theatresezme at Studio 16.  Past direction credit include The Donahue Sisters, by Geraldine Aron, and The Circle Game, a creation based video installation performance.  Past acting credits include Orestes, by Charles Mee, Tragic Eccentrics, by Risha Yorke and The Vagina Monologues, by Eve Ensler. 

Lindsay is a graduate of SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts, with a focus in theatre performance.  She has also studied Viewpoint and Suzuki techniques with Anne Bogart & The SITI Company at their intensive in New York, and continues to train in these methods.  Other trainings include Grotowski & Fowler acting techniques, as well as clown work, extensive vocal training and dance training.  Lindsay is also well trained in Pilates and Yoga.



Kirsten’s inclusive theatre training has kept her busy as an active participant of Vancouver’s art scene. 

Some of her acting credits include Tragic Eccentrics and Laurier, as well as performing the role of Blanche in Four-Five-Oh Theatre’s production of Sky (which she also co-produced).  Kirsten was actively involved in Gastown Actors Studio’s play festival, performing in three plays including the principal role in Am I Blue?  She co-directed, produced and performed in Tell not Tell Collective’s Ladies Voices: Stein in Play at Hycroft Manor. Recently, Kristen performed in Miranda Huba’s Hospital City and became a member of a new independent theatre company, Tiger Milk Collective. She is currently working on their inaugural project.

Completing her studies at Gastown Actors’ Studio, Kirsten went on to complete her BFA in Theatre from Simon Fraser University.   She has trained under a plethora of accomplished professionals in acting, voice, improvisation, movement, Pilates, contemporary dance and ‘core’ physical theatre. She presently trains on-camera with Andrew McIlroy at Second Avenue Studios.



Tanya has been happily teaching creative movement, clowning, theatre and voice throughout the lower mainland for ten years.

A graduate of Simon Fraser University and MainDance theatre projects, Tanya has worked with various Vancouver theatres and dance companies including The Leaky Heaven Circus, Boca Del Lupo, radix theatre, EDAM Dance, The Holy Body Tattoo, Screaming Weenie Productions, and her own company Chrysalis Theatre, (to name a few).

Tanya's teaching style encompasses a wide range of expertise, including voice, movement, dance, theatre, clowning and creative writing. When instructing, she applies all variety of skills to help her students discover how to express themselves through theatre and dance, and by doing so, learn more about themselves as individuals and the world around them.



As Head Technician of the Terry Fox Theatre, Neil created lighting for the recent Moon Stone Theatre Company ‘Shakespeare Live’ productions of The Comedy of Errors and Macbeth and the 1st annual Writing/Performing Troupe production of Now That We Have Your Attention.

Since graduating of Douglas College’s Stage Craft program in 1994, Neil has worked in almost every facet of the industry, including Lights, Scenic Construction, Rigging, Sound. He has also had the good fortune to work in theatres, and Convention Halls all over North America

His teaching experience includes work at the Banff Centre for the Arts, as Staff Stage Carpenter where he instructed students in stage carpentry and rigging. Neil is happy to be joining the Moon Stone team to provide quality and professional technical theatre instruction.
